Amounts Stevedored by KLASCO are the Greatest 2009.01.14 Klaipėdos Jūrų Krovinių Kompanija AB (KLASCO), the biggest stevedoring enterprise of Klaipėda port, held by the concern Achema Group stevedored 9.64 million tons of cargo last year. It is the best results over the entire history of company operation. Compared to the year 2007 when 9.59 million tons of cargo was stevedored, stevedoring increased by 0.5 per cent. Thus, the goal of KLASCO to preserve the stevedoring amounts of 2007 was achieved. "Changes in global economy also have a direct impact on port operation, therefore the cargo flows having decreased by one third in the last quarter of 2008 restrained higher growth of stevedoring", says Valentinas Greičiūnas, CEO of KLASCO. The general stevedoring result of KLASCO was positively influenced by grain and sugar raw material stevedoring having increased by some 50 per cent; besides, stevedoring of bulk fertilisers increased by 17.4 per cent. The best operation result was achieved by KLASCO Fertiliser Terminal that stevedored 4 million tons of cargo last year. This is the terminal where at the end of November 2008 the record of Klaipėda port was achieved, i.e. to the ship Swift-Fortune, 64.7 thousand tons of fertilisers were loaded. "A more complicated situation is observed at the Sea Ferry Terminal, where the flow of trailers and motor trailers decreased by more than one tenth last year. This situation worries both us and the operator of the ferry line", points out V. Greičiūnas. KLASCO stevedores one third of all cargo at Klaipėda port. In 2008, Klaipėda port stevedored 29.88 million tons of cargo. |
