New Occupational Safety Standard at KLASCO 2008.12.15 Klaipėdos Jūrų Krovinių Kompanija AB (KLASCO) held by the concern Achema Group introduced the Occupational Health and Safety Management System under OHSAS 18001:2007. This event supports the fact that the biggest stevedoring enterprise of Klaipėda port complies with all the requirements of safety and reliability applicable in the international market. "OHSAS 18001 Standard introduction whereof started just last year is a new thing among Lithuanian companies, especially significant to our enterprise that employs 800 persons", points out Valentinas Greičiūnas, CEO of KLASCO AB. According to him, port activity is a very complicated process. The port operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, therefore it is very important to ensure safe conditions for work of employees. "At our company, safety issues always were one of the top priorities; in this field, highly skilled experts have been working, therefore introduction of the standard was not very difficult and just confirmed that the company pays appropriate attention to the working conditions of people", explains V. Greičiūnas. He does not deny that for many years already KLASCO has been one of the most desirable workplaces among the Klaipėda port companies. Assessment of KLASCO compliance with international standards was carried out by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance, the English audit company that is an established authority of international sea business. OHSAS 18001:2007 Standard comprises cargo stevedoring and warehousing services as well as services of port tugboats provided by KLASCO. What concerns the companies of Achema Group, this standard has been already introduced at Achema AB, the plant producing nitrogen fertilisers and chemical products, and at Krovinių Terminalas UAB, cargo stevedoring terminal of light petroleum and chemical products. |
