Mockava Terminal Study Will be Carried out by the German Consortium 2008.12.11 Today, on 11th December, representatives of the concern Achema Group signed an agreement on the feasibility study of the railway cargo terminal in Mockava. The announced competition, in which four companies from Germany, Austria and Denmark participated, was won by the consortium of the German companies Uniconsult and RMCON. After today's first official meeting of partners, implementation works of the feasibility study will start. The feasibility study of the railway cargo terminal (when containers or trailers of tractors are reloaded on railway platforms without reloading the cargo itself) will answer the questions of technical solutions, investments and economic substantiation thereof. "After 3 months when the German consortium completes its work, we will negotiate and select the partners of this intermodular terminal, told Darius Vilkas, head of the logistics department of the concern Achema Group. We are going to start works, i.e. construction of infrastructure, railways and access roads, in the first quarter of 2010." Having won the lease auction of a 39.7 ha land plot in Mockava held at the end of July 2008, Achema Group signed with Lazdijai Region Municipality an agreement on lease of the land plot designed for construction of an industrial park for the period of 99 years. The main advantage of an industrial park in Mockava is a connection point of a narrow gauge line (European standard) and broad gauge line (Russian standard). Operation of an intermodular terminal will significantly improve conditions for cargo transit from the West to East and vice versa. After 3-5 years when implementation of the project is over, some 100 new workplaces could be developed for service of infrastructure facilities in Lazdijai region. |
